Stellenbosch FC coach Evangelos Vellios has made a bold statement ahead of their crucial top-of-the-table clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

The two sides will face off in a Diski Challenge festival billed at Idas Valley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Vellios, who has led Stellies to two DDC titles in the last three seasons, asserted that a win for Chiefs would mean they would be crowned the 2024-25 Champions.

"Definitely, it is a title decider for us. For Kaizer Chiefs it is not because the title is in their hands as things stand," said Vellios.

"A win for Chiefs against us will see them being crowned champions at the end of the season. If they beat us, they would have deserved it."

Chiefs are heading to the weekend sitting at the top of the log with 54 points from 22 games. Stellies on the flip side are second with 53 points amassed from 23 outings.

Stellies will look to assert their strength at home, while Amakhosi aims to solidify their dominance in the Diski Challenge race this season.

This matchup promises an intense tactical battle—Stellies fluid attacking play, led by key stars, will go up against Chiefs' well-structured defence and counter-attacking prowess. With both teams boasting high-quality squads, expect a fiery contest filled with skill, and possibly title implications.

Fans can anticipate a match filled with goals, passion, and a true test of each side's credentials in the Diski Challenge title race.

Stellies aim to capitalise on their home advantage and the passionate atmosphere in their stadium, while the Amakhosi will depend on their skill and quality as the current league leaders navigate a challenging encounter in the Winelands.

Vellios admitted that there's pressure but is counting on their experience as they have done it when it mattered the most.

Last season Stellies won the league in the last 15 minutes of the game where they defeated Golden Arrows.

Added Vellios: "We will be relying much on our experience to get us over the line. We are under no illusion, we know what Chiefs are capable of, they are in fine form and have conceded fewer goals in the league we are expecting a tough encounter."

Before the titanic clash, Cape Town City will face Orlando Pirates in the morning (10:00) at the same venue.
