Kaizer Chiefs bounced back to winning ways in the Betway Premiership when they claimed a 1-0 win over Magesi FC at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Despite the victory, Amakhosi remained eighth in the league standings, but they are three points behind third-placed Stellenbosch FC.

The Soweto giants will be looking to make it two wins in row when they face Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup on 8 March.

Dikwena Tsa Meetse, on the other hand, remained 15th in the standings after registering their 12th league defeat of the season.

Coach Owen Da Gama will be determined to ensure that Magesi return to winning ways when they host Richards Bay in a league game on 11 March.

Both teams struggled to create clear-cut chances in the first half, but Amakhosi were able to register two shots on target with long-range efforts as goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze had to dive to his right to deny Ranga Chivaviro in the 18th minute.

The Zimbabwean shot-stopper was also called into action six minutes before halftime and this time he denied Yusuf Maart whose shot lacked power.

The score was 0-0 during the halftime break following a relatively quiet first half in Nasrec, Johannesburg.

Both teams upped the tempo after the restart with Gift Motupa forcing keeper Bruce Bvuma into making a save in the 50th minute.

At the other end, Glody Lilepo was denied by Chipezeze three minutes before the hour-mark.

With 21 minutes left on the clock, coach Nasreddine Nabi decided to refresh his attack by introducing Ashley Du Preez.

The speedster proved to be a super-sub as he fired home eventual Man of the Match Lilepo's cross to hand Chiefs a 1-0 victory over Magesi on the day.
