In what has been a fiercely contested battle in the Motsepe Foundation Championship this season, the likes of Durban City and Orbit College continued to set the tone following their respective victories in matchday 18 this weekend.

Log leaders Durban City commenced this weekend’s fixture list with a 1-0 win against Venda Football Academy at the Chatsworth Stadium on Friday.

The club formerly known as Maritzburg United have now bagged two consecutive wins on the spin, which came after a slight blemish in their recent run of games where they suffered a 1-0 loss against Casric Stars on the 17th of January.

While Durban City remained in the winning column, Orbit College kept up with the pace setters with a 2-1 win against Milford at the Princess Magogo Stadium on Saturday.

Milford, who are likewise hoping to finish in a PSL promotion playoff position this season, are now eight points behind Durban City while Orbit are five points adrift of the log leaders in second place.

Third placed JDR Stars suffered a setback in their pursuit of a promotion position this weekend with their 0-0 draw with Highbury at the Soshanguve Stadium on Saturday. As it stands, JDR are winless in their last two matches and have fallen six points behind log leaders Durban City.

Elsewhere, matters went from bad to worse for Cape Town Spurs, who increased their winless run to the three games following a damaging 3-0 loss to Black Leopards at the Thohoyandou Stadium.

The Urban Warriors ended the latest match week in 15th spot, just two points behind 16th placed Leruma United who were on the end of a 2-0 defeat against Hungry Lions this weekend.

In Sunday's fixture, Baroka and AmaTuks played to a 1-1 draw at the Global Stadium.
