Polokwane City’s goalscoring drought is a major concern to coach Phuti Mohafe, who side have now gone almost eight hours without a goal.

The Limpopo-based club, who were beaten 1-0 by Kaizer Chiefs at Soccer City on Wednesday, last scored a goal in May, towards the end of the last Betway Premiership season, when they drew 1-1 away at AmaZulu.

“It’s a big concern for us to score a goal. It's an element that needs to be taken care of very, very fast and furiously,” said Mohafe.

Polokwane City’s three matches this season have seen them lose 2-0 to Orlando Pirates in their MTN8 quarterfinal, play out a goalless draw with Magesi last weekend and then lose to Chiefs.

Their last goal in May came from the penalty spot from centre back Lebohang Nkaki. Their last goal scored in open play came from Nkaki again against SuperSport United at home in April.

Polokwane, who finished seventh in the league, had their chances to score against Chiefs, but mostly from set pieces.

“I think it was a tough match for both teams, but it was unfortunate that we became the losers on the night,” said the coach.

“We gave our all, but it was just that we conceded from a situation we have trained throughout. We knew very well that they will come with the diagonal balls from their left side and they will try to combine from the right.”

Mohafe took a stoic view and said his side would bounce back. They next meet Siwelele in Atteridgeville next Tuesday

“I think it's work in progress because there are certain elements that we are improving on, especially how we start matches, the way we finish matches, but the finishing part needs work. In short, we just missed some, and had we scored one, maybe we could have changed the complexion of the game,” Mohafe argued.
