Orlando Pirates are eyeing top spot in the Betway Premiership as the club sets its sight on a victory over Durban City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 3:30pm CAT.

Orlando Pirates are tied on points with Mamelodi Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership table. The two sides both have 25 points, though Sundowns have a two goal lead on goal difference.

The Buccaneers are rolling in the league and have not lost a game since their second Betway Premiership game of the season against Marumo Gallants on 12 August.

In 11 league games, the Sea Robbers have notched eight wins, two losses and one draw.

With a game in hand, Pirates could snatch top spot from the Brazilians with a win on Saturday in the club’s final league game of 2025.

Durban City are exceeding expectations in their first season in the South Africa top flight.

Gavin Hunt’s men are seventh on the standings, having collected 19 points from 13 games. Of its 13 fixtures, the club has managed five wins, four draws and four losses.

As its final match of the year approaches, the Citizens will be looking to end a historic 2025 on a high.

The Buccaneers are nearly at full strength after the return of Olisah Ndah and Makhehlene Makhaula from injury. Sihle Nduli is expected to be available, while it is unclear whether Mbekezeli Mbokazi will be available amidst ongoing transfer talks with Chicago Fire in the MLS.

In a statement released on Durban City’s official website, club Chairman Farook Kadodia emphasised the importance of the coming clash against the Buccaneers, viewing it as an opportunity to show what the club is made of.

“Saturday will be a great occasion for not just Durban City fans but all football fans in the province,” said Kadodia.

“It is about growing our support base and building the club in our new home. This match is our opportunity to demonstrate the quality and fighting spirit we are building here.”

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Orlando Pirates - Oswin Appolis has emerged as an early front-runner for the PSL Footballer of the Season award after a strong start at Orlando Pirates. The winger has played all of the Buccaneers’ league games this season, registering four goal contributions. Since joining from Polokwane City. Appolis has the ability to change games with his pace, vision and finishing ability.

Durban City - Letsie Koapeng has also enjoyed a hot start at his new club since joining the Citizens from Orbit College in September. The 33-year-old centre-forward has bagged three goals in 11 games for Durban City and will be looking to add to his tally against his former club.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

This will be the first league meeting between Durban City and Orlando Pirates.
