Chiefs could plunge further down the table

Kaizer Chiefs will be keeping a wary eye on the last two Betway Premiership fixtures of the season, which are being played on Wednesday and Thursday, even though their own season is over.
Chiefs again missed out on a top eight place for a second successive season and there is a chance that they could sink even further than the ninth position they occupy after finishing their 28-match programme with a 0-0 draw against Polokwane City on Saturday.
Victory for both Magesi and Lamontville Golden Arrows in the last two fixtures would see both clubs go above Chiefs, forcing them down to 11th place, which would be their worst ever finish.
Last season, Chiefs ended in 10th spot in an all-time low in the club’s history and this season’s equally disappointing finish is only the fifth time they have missed out on a top eight place.
It was in 2002 that Chiefs first completed a season outside the top eight, after more than third decades of professional competition, when they came ninth and repeated the feat again in 2007, 2019 and now two seasons in a row.
Chiefs ended this season on 32 points – their lowest ever points tally albeit they played 28 games instead of the usual 30 after Royal AM were expelled from the top flight.
Magesi and Arrows both have 30 points with one game to play.
Magesi are away at Orlando Pirates in Soweto on Wednesday night (live on SuperSport at 7.30pm) while Arrows play the second half of their previously abandoned game against SuperSport at Atteridgeville on Thursday (kick off 12pm, also live on SuperSport).
Victory for both Arrows and Magesi would push the duo above Chiefs.
