Faiz Abrahams, fresh from helping South Africa win the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, and Vuyolwethu Andrieas have been handed their first professional contracts at Stellenbosch, the club announced.

Attacker Abrahams, 20, has already debuted for the first team this season, making two substitute appearances in the Betway Premiership, and was one of the standout players during the club’s DStv Diski Challenge campaign, with 11 goals and six assists for the season.

“I’m excited for the future at Stellenbosch FC,” he told the club’s website. “This is one of the best clubs to be at in terms of developing and promoting young players and giving them the chance to showcase their talents.

“My goal is to play more regularly in the first team next season, and I can’t wait for the new campaign to get underway,” Abrahams added.

The 20-year-old Andrieas has been promoted up to the squad for the first time and said: “First of all, I want to thank the Almighty God for giving me this opportunity,” Andrieas said. “I’ve always said that I’m willing to give everything for the badge, and I can’t wait to do that on this next chapter of my journey.

“I’ve been in the setup for a while, and that has given me a lot of strength. Training with the first-team players has motivated me to keep working hard to ensure I’m ready to take my opportunity with both hands when it comes,” he added.

Andrieas, a central midfielder, joined Stellenbosch’s academy in 2022 and helped the club win the DStv Diski Challenge and Premier League Next Generation Cup titles last year.

Stellenbosch has produced several exciting talents in recent years and seen players like Jayden Adams, Ashley du Preez and Dean van Rooyen sold to Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates respectively over the last season.
