Sebelebele: “Kasongo” built for big moments
Kamogelo Sebelebele is quickly becoming a household name among Orlando Pirates fans and for good reasons.
Since joining the Buccaneers from TS Galaxy, the explosive forward has delivered match-winning performances, clutch goals, and now, a nickname that’s going viral: “Kasongo.”
From TS Galaxy to Orlando Pirates star
Sebelebele arrived at Pirates following the departure of Mohau Nkota to Saudi Arabia’s Ettaf FC. In just a few weeks, he’s made a massive impact—scoring in his first three matches and helping Pirates reach the MTN8 2025/26 final.
His two goals against Mamelodi Sundowns in the semifinals—one in each leg—cemented his reputation as a big-game player. In fact, Sundowns have been his favourite target since his TS Galaxy days, with three goals in nine appearances against the Brazilians, matching his tally against Stellenbosch.
The “Kasongo” Nickname?
So what makes Sebelebele so dangerous? It’s his pace, power, and unpredictability. Defenders are constantly backpedaling, trying to keep up. That’s why teammate Sipho Mbule gave him the nickname “Kasongo”, a reference to a viral internet meme known for lightning speed and chaos.
While “Kasongo” has multiple meanings, from a Congolese town to a 1977 hit song, it is Sebelebele’s blistering speed that inspired the comparison. He leaves defenders for dead.
Bafana Bafana call-up
Sebelebele’s performances has put him on the radar of national team selectors, thanks to his ability to change games with moments of brilliance.
His combination of technical skill and mental toughness makes him one of the most exciting talents in the Premier Soccer League.
