Pirates maintain top spot as Chiefs drop points again
Orlando Pirates will spend another week at the top of the DStv Diski Challenge following an impressive fight back to earn three points against Golden Arrows on Saturday. Pirates came from a goal down to beat Arrows 2-1 at Princess Magogo Stadium, Kwa-Mashu on Saturday.
This was Pirates' fifth consecutive victory since the season started. Pirates started the campaign with a 3-3 draw against Durban City, but they recovered well from that as they went on to win all five matches out of six that have been played this season.
On Saturday, Arrows were the first ones to find the back of the net just after 12 minutes through Sfundo Shezi and went to the break leading.
Moses Mphekgoane saved the day for Pirates as he scored the equaliser at the hour mark.
Pirates missed a penalty in the 75th minute, but they were able to steal all three points in the last two minutes when they caught Arrows on the counterattack, and Orantile Rantasi scored a thunderbolt, making it 2-1.
Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 Sekhukhune United
The Diski Challenge reigning champions' (Kaizer Chiefs) struggle continues as they were held to a one-all draw by Sekhukhune United. Amakhosi have not had their best performance thus far. In six matches, they have won only twice, drawn twice and lost the other two matches. They have now gone four games without a win, and without a doubt, that has put question marks on their chances of defending the title.
On Sunday, Amakhosi took the lead through Shaun Els in the 24th minute after a beautiful team effort, but Ntokozo Msimango equalised for Babina Noko in the 62nd minute to earn Sekhukhune a draw.
AmaZulu 0-3 Mamelodi Sundowns
Bennet Mokoena continued with his fine form as he was on the scoresheet again this weekend when Sundowns brushed aside AmaZulu. Mokoena scored Sundowns' third goal to seal the victory, which saw them climb to the second position on the log. Oarabile Booysen opened the scoreboard in the 12th minute of the match, before Chuiene Moabelo made it 2-0 at the stroke of halftime.
Mokoena completed the rout in the 58th minute with a stunning free kick, taking his goals tally to five goals this season.
