Bennet Mokoena, a promising striker for Mamelodi Sundowns, has pledged to make history in the DStv Diski Challenge this season.

Since the league's inception in 2014, no player has managed to score 30 or more goals. The highest record so far was 25 goals, achieved by Boitumelo Radiopane during the 2021-22 season. That season also marked the last time a striker scored 20 goals or more in the Reserve League.

However, Mamelodi Sundowns promising striker Mokoena has made a promise that he will be a regular goal scorer this season, as that would also enhance his chances of being part of the junior national team, Under-20 Amajita.

"I am looking forward to scoring more goals this season, this is a good start for me and I want to be more consistent and I am positive that if I can stay injury free, I will score a lot of goals," said Mokoena.

The 18-year-old last season scored six goals in the few cameo appearances he made. This season Mokoena, has started well, netting five goals in his first six matches. He promised to do six times better than he did last season.

He explained: "My target is to reach 30 goals this season. I believe it is possible. I just need to improve a few aspects of my game and be more composed.

He added: "Some of the games so far, this season we have not had a good start, but we were able to bounce back and get results. That on its own shows that we have a great fighting spirit within ourselves and we want to keep on fighting this season."
