Cape Town City are going through a crisis of confidence after failing to win in their last four games and scoring a solitary goal in their last five encounters, coach Muhsin Ertugral said after their 2-0 home loss to Chippa United at the Athlone Stadium on Tuesday.

The club dropped out of the top eight to 10th spot after losing at home for only a second time this season

“These are the times that coaching is the most difficult. I think in the first 20 minutes the game could have been over,” said Ertugral of his side’s missed opportunities as Chippa goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali made some key saves.

“But the game is, unfortunately, 90 minutes long. Yeah, this is our problem. We don't score and then the pressure mounts. When we don't score, you can see the dropping of heads, and then one mistake and you get punished.”

Chippa used the wind in the second half to their advantage and Sinoxolo Kwayiba netted twice to ensure only a second away league win of the season.

“Chippa got into the game, but they were not any chances created by them. In the end, they got a golden chance that they scored from and then we are running behind.

“This has happened now a couple of times, and you can see mentally how our shoulders drop. We tried to find solutions with our substitutions, but this didn't happen. Even when we had a clear-cut opportunity in the dying minutes, we couldn’t even score that one. That’s our situation,” he added.

City have a tough assignment next up as they play away at Orlando Pirates on Saturday.
