MFC weekend preview - MFC new boys under the spotlight in season opener

With the Betway Premiership in full swing, the Motsepe Foundation Championship will commence this weekend with a number of new clubs hoping to mix it up with some of the best sides in South Africa’s first division.
To begin with, the newly promoted Gomora United will take on Leicesterford City at the TUT Stadium on 22 August.
Gomora earned promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship after winning the 2024/25 ABC Motsepe League national play-off. Their status was stamped owing to a 2-1 win against The Bees at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in July earlier this year.
As for Leicesterford City, the newly formed team bought their MFC franchise from JDR Stars following the conclusion of the 24/25 campaign.
Midlands United, who also gained promotion from the ABC Motsepe League, will do battle against Hungry Lions at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Sunday, 24 August.
Also, The Bees are scheduled to face Baroka FC at Kanyamazane Stadium in the Mpumalanga Province. Then, Lerumo Lions, who secured the PSL status of Pretoria Callies, will face Milford FC at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban on Saturday.
